The late Lalit Doshi, IAS, took over as Secretary (Industries), Energy & Labour Department, Government of Maharashtra, on 10th August, 1992.

Lalit joined the Indian Administrative Service in 1966 after completing his education at the Bharda New High School, Mumbai, and St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, culminating in a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Bombay with a Gold Medal in Industrial Economics. He also held a Diploma in Systems Management from the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. He completed his studies in Management of Public Enterprises at Leeds University, U.K.

In his distinguished official career spanning over twenty-seven years, Lalit held important positions under the Government of Maharashtra: Chief Executive Officer of Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Secretary in the Department of Housing, Institutional Finance and Planning. Prior to his final appointment as Secretary (Industries), Government of Maharashtra, he was the Managing Director of the State Industrial and Investment Corporation of Maharashtra (SICOM). From 1985 to 1990, he worked as Joint Secretary, Government of India, in Ministry of Petrochemicals. As Secretary, Industries, he played a major role in formulating the New Industrial Policy for the State of Maharashtra.

Lalit passed away on 30th January, 1994 in Davos, Switzerland, while attending the World Economic Forum.

It was said of him: "He always had a smile on his face irrespective of the magnitude and the tension of work"
